English as a Second Lanaguage

According to the DET's Ethnic Affairs Priorities Statement Report 2008, students from a language background other than English in NSW government schools has grown from 203,378 in 2005 to 212,529 in 2008 (p.4). This number equaties to 28.4% of students in government schools.

Association of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages
- Teaching English for Academic Purposes
Particular focus on critical thinking, with a focus on preparing students for tertiary education. Covers standards 1.2.1, 1.2.3, 6.2.3
- Grammar Workshop for Years 4-8
For non-English speaking background students, strategies for teaching grammar. Covers standards 1.2.1, 1.2.3, 6.2.3
Association of Independent Schools
Has a variety of ESL programs, open to both members and non-members. Different courses cover different standards, please see their website for more details and specifics.
